This unusual layered pie is an elegant variation on the medianoche sandwich, which includes the same basic filling served on egg bread and toasted on a sandwich grill. Savory pies are often sold by the slice at Cuban bakeries and may also be ordered whole as takeout party food. This one cuts beautifully when cold, and makes a great midnight supper when served with a green salad and a glass of wine.
