Method

Combine 3 egg whites, tsp. salt, ¼ tsp. cream of tartar and ½ tsp. vanilla. Beat until soft peaks form. Add ¾ c. sugar gradually, beating until very stiff and sugar is dissolved. Spread over bottom and sides of greased 9" pie pan. Build up sides. (Use cake decorator for fancy edge.) Sprinkle ⅓ c. chopped pecans or walnuts on bottom of pie shell. Bake in very slow oven (275°F.) 1 hour. Cool.
