Half fill a shallow earthenware dish with the sliced potatoes. Mix in your garlic, season well with the salt, pepper and nutmeg and cover with the cream (the potato should not be 'floating', hence the thicik cream).
Bake in the oven 180°C/350°F/gas 4 for up to 1 hour depending on the quantity you make.
