Chocolate figs were the sweet standby at Neddy’s. We kept them in jars ready to add to a dish or to be served on their own with coffee to those guests who were not keen on a full-size dessert. They are a great accompaniment to rhubarb, with its slightly tangy flavour.

Rhubarb should be obtained from a good greengrocer and used on the day it has been cut to get the full flavour and to ensure crispness. It is best picked early in the day if you have your own supply.
