This is a sweet and very indulgent cake, enriched with a total of 12 egg yolks. It is made deliciously moist by the unusual method of simmering the baked slices in a spicy sugar syrup, after it has been baked.

Ingredients

  • 12 egg yolks
  • 15 ml/1 tbsp self-raising (self-rising) flour

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C/325°F/Gas 3 and grease or line a 25cm/10in square cake tin (pan).
  2. Whisk the egg yolks in a bowl until they are thick and almost white. Sift in the flour and baking powder and fold in gently.
