The origins of asparagus are unknown, but I do know that it is not a Chinese vegetable. Only recently introduced, it has nevertheless become a Hong Kong favourite. At first, asparagus was served in European restaurants in the great hotels of Hong Kong. From there it spread to other restaurants and then to the general population.
