This is a Brazilian recipe that I discovered while I was writing A Celebration of Soup. The short ingredients list belies its subtlety and interest, and my family have become addicted to it. It’s a useful soup to know about, because sweet potatoes keep for ages. I’ve made it very successfully with a 400 g can of tomatoes and 1½ beef stock-cubes.
