Mussels Dumas

Once you could gather all the mussels you could eat on the rocky eastern tip of Long Island. But they’re no longer so plentiful since I cunningly spread the word that they were edible and the local fish dealers realized that “summer people” (the weirdos) would pay cash for them. Mussels are hardly an endangered species, but if you find a good spawning spot where the blue-black mollusks are washed by sea tides, I advise you to keep it to yourself. Mussels remain one of the cheapest of all sh
