Steak and Kidney Pie

Meat pasties existed in English cookery long before anyone ever thought of putting sweetened fruit between crusts. They were a mainstay of medieval cooking but are now almost extinct, except for Shepherd’s Pie and this old favorite. However much I thank the English for the idea of these dishes, I don’t care for the way they actually make them today. This is not authentic, but I was born a Lancaster and I have a right to my own version.
