This is the recipe of Mr. John Farley, principal cook at the London Tavern in 1783. The tavern at that time was a new building. The site had been previously occupied by the White Lion Tavern, which was destroyed by fire in November 1765. It is stated in 1782 that ‘the annual banquets of the officers of some 28 different regiments are held here in the month of May.
