  • 1 red cabbage (about 2 pounds)

Method

Wash and shred cabbage, removing central core, ribs and outer leaves. Cook in butter, in a covered saucepan, for 5 minutes. Peel and core apples and cut into quarters; slice onions. Place these ingredients in a deep oven-proof casserole in layers, beginning with a layer of cabbage, then onions, then apples, and continue until casserole is full.
