  • About

This Hakka version of a savory steamed radish cake, also known as turnip cake or pudding, is packed with shreds of Asian white radish such as daikon or lo bok. Natalie Com Liu studs the thick rice-flour batter with bits of sweet Chinese sausage, five-spice–scented Chinese bacon, and tiny dried shrimp. When steamed, the mixture firms into a dense pudding-like cake that the Chinese enjoy. Serve the savory slabs steamed or pan-fried as a dim sum dish or appetizer.
