  • 1 large or 2 smaller salt herrings
  • 1 medium red onion

  1. Prepare and soak the herring as in the previous recipe.
  2. Squeeze the water from the herring and arrange in one layer in a flat glass dish and top with peeled and sliced onion. Combine the rest of the ingredients, except the dill weed, in a pan and simmer together, covered, for 15 minutes. Let steep at room temperature overnight
