This cabbage salad is hot, sour, sweet and very refreshing. The vibrant colour of the shredded red cabbage makes an attractive dish on any table, especially a Christmas buffet. It’s great, too, for picnics, since there is no mayonnaise to spoil in the heat.


  • 1 medium-sized head of red cabbage
  • 175 ml/6 fl oz vegetable oil


  1. Slice the cabbage very thinly - a food processor is excellent for this.
  2. Mix the remaining ingredients and pour over the cabbage. Toss thoroughly.
