Earthy sweet potatoes, coarsely grated and fried into crisp browned discs, spiced up energetically with warm mild chilli. Delicious autumn fare.


  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled
  • 4 large baking potatoes, peeled
  • 2 eggs


  1. Grate the sweet and baking potatoes coarsely; set half the grated potatoes aside and purée the other half. Mix the grated and puréed potatoes, then combine with the eggs, enough flour to make a lightly bound mixture, and the onion, salt, cumin and chilli powder.
  2. Heat a little vegetable oil in a heavy frying pan until hot but not smoking.
