Literally translated, Gorditas means ‘little fat ones’. They consist of little bowls made from tortilla dough, then deep-fried and filled with mashed beans, shredded meat and fresh garnishes. Gorditas are only one of Mexico’s snack foods called antojitos or ‘little whims’.
