Literally translated, Gorditas means ‘little fat ones’. They consist of little bowls made from tortilla dough, then deep-fried and filled with mashed beans, shredded meat and fresh garnishes. Gorditas are only one of Mexico’s snack foods called antojitos or ‘little whims’. Tacos, tostadas and burritos are familiar antojitos, but there is an unlimited variety of these snacks all with differing sizes, shapes, fillings and so on. Chalupas are little boats of fried tortilla
