Definitely not cheese cakes in the modern sense of the word, this is a very simple recipe which could be served either as a sweet or as a dessert. It is effectively a lemon curd, thickened with almond-flavoured biscuit crumbs, and can be served, as here, in glasses, or used as a filling for a blind-baked pastry case.
