In North Sumatra, people will tell you that this curry comes from Malaysia. In fact it is very similar to the lamb korma cooked by Muslims in Central India, except that it is made with coconut milk instead of yogurt. Restaurant menus in Medan and the surrounding area often call it gulai kurma, gulai meaning any dish with plenty of sauce; the meat of course is goat.
