A delicious marriage of mussels and creamy beans, the sauce for this fragrant dish is traditionally poured over pasta mista, a mixture of small and broken pasta shapes. Pasta odds and ends in the pantry? Add them to the pot.

  1. In a large pot of generously salted boiling water, cook pasta until al dente, about 5 minutes. Drain, reserving cups cooking water; set aside. Add half of beans and 1 cup pasta cooking
