Mutabbaq is a good dessert when you have guests. It is unusual yet utterly delicious, it looks impressive and it can be made in advance, kept in the fridge and then baked to serve. Add a couple of drops of orange blossom water to the syrup if you like. An alternative, yet common, filling you can use consists of crushed walnuts (200g), caster sugar (50g), cinnamon (1 tsp) and melted unsalted butter (3 tbsp) — all mixed together.
