Legend has it that King Solomon ordered 100 dishes for a welcoming banquet for the Queen of Sheba. The chef could come up with only 99 dishes, so went walking in the fields, looking for inspiration. He came upon okra and found it delightful so made it the hundredth dish, naming it Ben-maiyah, or “ the hundredth”. Okra – or lady’s fingers as it is also known – is quite exotic in the North, but in warm lands this vegetable is a summer staple. It is cooked on its own, can be combined with lamb
