When I was around eight years old, I used to make this rustic candy on spoons and ladles over the flame of a stovetop so often that I would get yelled at for ruining silverware. It was so worth it! I don’t know who gave me the idea to melt sugar and add baking soda, but I’m glad someone did: It was my first foray into candy-making.
