This recipe is based on one from Elizabeth David’s classic book, Italian Food, written in 1954. We had this recipe on our first menu. Peppers were still hard to obtain in the UK in 1963, but we had a local supplier called Vin Sullivan, who managed to get them for us. This dish is still very popular at the restaurant, despite the fact that peppers are no longer a novelty.
