Every August we go down to my mother’s house in the country for a week or so. If the weather’s good, life’s good. Less so if it’s dreary and drizzling. My mother’s kitchen garden, though, is incredible. One day, I walked through with a basket, picking whatever looked good – tiny red onions, elegant carrots, baby courgettes and endless herbs.
