Sang Som is a Thai brown spirit found in every mom ‘n’ pop shop across the country and a particular favorite of the hipster backpacker demographic. The Thais call it whiskey but it’s actually closer to rum both in taste and structure, with a sweet molasses-like flavor (from 3-5 years of aging in charred oak barrels) and a distinctive silky texture similar to rhum agricole, a French-Caribbean cane juice rum. I stack milk ice cream,
