This is an indulgent sweet staple that makes a fabulous gift. It lasts for a long time in an airtight container. Like all candy, it is a bit tricky to make. Gather all of your equipment, including a candy thermometer, before you begin, as this recipe requires all of your attention.
Line a 9x5-inch pan with aluminum foil; lightly grease with cooking spray or coat with butter.*
In a heavy 4-quart saucepan, stir together maple syrup and corn syrup. Attach a candy thermometer to side of pan, and bring syrup mixture to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
