Café de olla is a Mexican spiced coffee made with ground coffee, cinnamon, and a raw dark sugar called piloncillo. Traditionally, this coffee is made using a large clay pot, called olla de barro, over a firewood stove. At her farm, my grandma used a large, blue enamel pot. It always sat there next to the firewood stove, ready to welcome any visitor, no matter the season or time of day. This recipe brings back sweet memories of my grandma and her farm in Veracruz.
