Here is a substantial meal in a bun for those who take their racing or other outdoor pursuits far too seriously to stop for a fancy hamper lunch.


You Need

  • For 2 people, 2 thick, well-hung Aberden Angus sirloin steaks or pieces of rump steak, unsalted butter, 1 ciabatta or other small crusty loaf, salt and freshly ground black pepper


Grill the steak until done to your liking. Remove it from the heat, and allow to cool. Soften the butter, split the ciabatta in half, and butter both sides. When the steak is cool, remove all the fat, and thinly cut the steak into small, thin rectangular slices. Fill the ciabatta with the meat, cut the loaf in two and wrap tightly. By the time the sandwiches are eaten, the meat
