Cook a batch of this soup on a winter night when you are in need of sustenance but barely have the energy to boil water.
The barley with beans is both nutritious and satisfying. A portion of this robust soup is enough dinner for me, but if you think it won’t be enough, follow it with a vegetable salad or with a dessert like Broiled Bananas or Brown Betty Peaches.
This is not a soup to make in double batche
