The pairing of chewy short-grain rice with tender creamy millet is heavenly. This dish, flavored with sesame oil, garlic, and rice vinegar, has an original tang that works well alongside Baked Fish with Vegetables, or steamed vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 tablespoons Oriental sesame

Method

  1. Mince the garlic. Peel and slice the carrots ¼ inch thick.
  2. Heat the sesame oil in a medium-size saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and carrots and sauté for a couple of minutes, stirring constantly. Add the sugar and rice and sauté for a few seconds.
  3. Add the rice vinegar and water. Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover,
