This is a favourite dish throughout Turkey.

In the Aegean region, and in Izmir in particular it has an important place in the local marriage folklore. On the day of the wedding the bride’s mother prepares a tray of rice pilaf with a whole boiled chicken on top, a tray of böreks, a tray of baklava, and two simits, all covered with satin cloth, and sends them to her prosp
