Coffee has been prepared and served in coffee houses since the 16th century. It is made in a small long-handled pot called a cezve and served in small cups, and a dish of lokum or other sweetmeat is usually offered with it. In the southern part of Anatolia cardamom is sometimes added to coffee to enhance its taste, but real coffee addicts prefer it plain to savour its natural flavour.
