  • 12 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • ΒΌ cup double-acting baking powder
  • 1 pound vegetable shortening


  1. Mix the dry ingredients together.

  2. Blend in the shortening, using a pastry blender or the fingertips, until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Store in a cool dry place.
