Beat the egg until it is light and foamy. Add the brown sugar and vanilla and beat well. Stir in the flour mixture and then the almonds.
Grease a shallow pan (8 × 8 × 2inches) and spread the mixture into it with a spatula. Bake for twenty-five to thirty minutes, or until top is firm with a crust. While warm cut into squares, about two inches each. Cool before taking from the pan.
