Preheat oven to moderate (350°F.).
Blend the shortening and sugar. Beat in the egg, lemon juice and rind. Stir in dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in the nuts.
Shape the dough into rolls, wrap in wax paper, and chill.
Slice the dough crosswise thinly, place on greased baking sheets, and bake for twelve to fifteen minutes.
