  • 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups soft brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 cups seedless raisins
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts


  1. Preheat oven to moderate (375°F.).

  2. Sift together the flour, baking soda, nutmeg and salt. Cream the butter and brown sugar. Beat the eggs into the butter mixture. Add the flour mixture alternately with the milk. Stir in the raisins and nuts.

  3. Drop teaspoons of the batter onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake for twelve to fifteen minutes.
