Children love this kueh for the simple reason that they can peel off each coloured layer. I used to discard the white-coloured layer which was my least favourite. We often called this kueh the “colour-colour” or rainbow kueh and it invariably appeared as a vibrant complement to other kueh-kueh my mother made that looked less cheery but no less delicious, like kueh ko swee or kueh ambon.
