The Portuguese are great enthusiasts for dried salt cod. When I was in Lisbon, there was a temporary shortage of it in the shops. The news that a large shipment from Norway had arrived in Oporto was carried under big headlines on the front pages of the newspapers; which was quite right for an item of such immediate interest to all their readers.
