In about 1975 the firm of Svenska Fisk in Göteborg held a competition for fishermen’s wives, of whom 150 or so sent in their best fish recipes. The first prize went to Barbro Henning of Skärhamn for this one.

What is known as Västkustsallad (west coast salad) is quite an institution in Sweden and usually comprises a variety of crustaceans and molluscs such as lobster, shrimps, crab and mussels. Getting all these things together and preparing them is not always easy; and the simplici
