These biscuits are made specifically for Nowroz celebrations. Rarely made at home, they are mostly bought from local Afghan bakeries that specialise in making traditional sweets. During the festivities, small shop windows are piled high with an assortment of sweet treats placed on sheets of coloured tissue paper. This recipe uses rice flour to give the biscuits a light and airy texture.
