Heinitsch’s drugstore, founded at Lancaster in 1782, is still selling medicines, but what the family is probably best known for is its spicy gingerbread. Carl Heinitsch (d. 1803) came to this country from Lutzen, Saxony, in 1772 and brought with him this heirloom recipe for Lebkuche (honey cake).
