One of the best recipes appeared in the Neuer Gemeinnütziger Pennsylvanischer Calender issued at Lancaster in 1895, and it is given here as it appeared in the original, rewritten to make better sense of the old-style measurements and ingredients, particularly the pastry flour, which is crucial.
