Butterscotch is essentially a caramel made with brown sugar instead of white sugar, so it has a distinct molasses flavor. It’s great on any of the nut pies, the Autumn Pear Pie, or the Salty Chocolate Chess Pie. Add a touch of booze if you want the sauce to have a little extra kick—I prefer aged applejack.
