Kick off your day with a protein-packed savory winner that’s just as good for lunch as it is for brunch. Any flavorful leaf can be used if you have trouble finding fresh shiso or sesame leaves; layered basil is also especially nice. Grains and sweets needn’t dominate the breakfast and brunch food category.

Ingredients

  • 14 ounces extra-firm tofu, sliced crosswise ½ to ¾-inch-thick (should yield 3 to 4 slices
