This is an ideal accompaniment to a veal and mushroom casserole, when prepared in its simplest form. But with slight elaboration it can stand alone.
Oil the bottom of the dish. Peel the potatoes and slice them very thinly. Lay them on the bottom of the dish, slice the garlic and distribute it over the potatoes with some herbs and salt.
