This combination is perfect either for breakfast or as an afternoon snack with a cup of coffee or tea. The slightly vegetal flavor of the ground cherries works well with earthier flours such as spelt or rye. Feel free to substitute 50 percent of either of those flours for 50 percent of the volume of all-purpose flour called for in the biscuit recipe. I also sometimes paddle the butter and stewed ground cherries together to make a fruit butter, if you don’t want to be smearing and spooning.<
