Heat a large frying pan or wok, add the sesame seeds and dry-fry over a high heat for 1 minute or until golden. Set aside. Return the pan to the heat, add the oil, ginger, garlic, miso and mirin and mix well. Add the asparagus and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until almost tender. Sprinkle over the sugar and a little cracked black pepper and stir-fry for a further 1 minute.
