These honey cookies are one of the most popular treats throughout Greece over the Christmas season. The fragrant aroma from these little egg-shaped cookies fills the house with ‘Christmas’, bringing back childhood memories.

Ingredients

For the syrup

  • 500 ml water
  • 500 g granulated sugar

  • First make the syrup: Place the water, sugar and honey in a saucepan with the orange rind, cinnamon and cloves. Bring to a steady simmer over a medium-high heat to dissolve the sugar, gently bubbling to form a light syrup. Remove from the heat, whisk and set aside to cool.
