A visitor to Camogli today would not understand the genesis of this recipe. Many years ago, in the hills above town there were numerous cherry trees that produced a small and highly flavorful cherry. This was known as the camogginn, or Camogli cherry. These delicious cherries gained fame in the region and numerous plantings were done, especially in the hills north of Genoa on the road to Piedmont.
