The Catalan name for these nutty festival cakes means “little bread”, but they are, in fact, much closer to marzipan, with a slightly soft centre that is produced by their secret ingredient - sweet potato. Patisseries make hundreds of these little cakes for All Saints’ Day, on 1st November, when families take flowers to the graveyards.

  1. Dice the sweet potato, and cook it in a pan of boiling water for 15 minutes, or until soft. Drain and leave to cool.
